Why You'll Love It

Why You'll Love It
WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) is the single best way to kill channelling before it starts - but stirring by hand with a needle tool is fiddly and easy to do unevenly. This tool automates it. You simply rest it on the basket and press down; an internal mechanism turns that downward push into rotation, spinning the needles evenly through the grounds to break up every clump and level the bed. Lift it off and tamp. It's faster, more consistent, and more satisfying than manual WDT - the same even extraction, with none of the faff.

Press down, it spins itself

The clever bit: push the top down and the internal spiral mechanism converts that motion into rotation, spinning the needle array through your grounds. It aerates and redistributes the coffee evenly across the whole basket, then springs back ready for the next shot. No twisting by hand, no uneven stirring.

Even distribution, every time

Straight from the grinder, coffee lands in clumps - dense in some spots, loose in others - and that unevenness is what causes channelling. The fine needles break those clumps apart and spread the grounds into a uniform bed, so water flows evenly through the whole puck for a cleaner, more balanced, more repeatable shot.

Built to last

Fine stainless steel needles set into a solid aluminium body, finished in black.

FAQs

What is WDT and why does it matter?

WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) uses fine needles to break up clumps and evenly distribute your coffee grounds before tamping. An even bed means water flows uniformly through the puck, which reduces channelling and gives you more consistent, better-tasting espresso.

How is this different from a normal WDT needle tool?

A standard WDT tool is stirred by hand, which takes practice to do evenly. This one does the work for you - press down and the needles spin automatically through the grounds, for faster, more consistent distribution with no technique required.

How do I use it?

Dose your grounds into the basket, rest the tool on top, and press down a few times - the needles spin and distribute as you press. Lift it off, then tamp as normal. It adds just a few seconds to your routine.

Will it fit my portafilter?
A WDT tool works inside the basket, so match it to your basket diameter: This one is a 58mm design. So only suitable for 58mm portafilters.

Do I still need a distributor and tamper?

They do different jobs. This breaks up clumps and evens the grounds; a distributor levels the surface; a tamper compresses the bed. WDT is the first and most important step - it's the one that tackles the clumping the others can't fix.

Fits perfectly

Fits the Breville bambino plus portafilter snuggly and also sits well on the cradle on the Df54. Needs a wipe after each grind for static. Happy with the purchase and would recommend

Makes such a difference

I procrastinated on getting this until my friend asked me to grab one for her. I can't believe it took me so long to get one should have done it much earlier. This really changed the way I tased the coffee. It's so much smoother and full boded with out the bitterness.

Great bottomless Portafilter

I do like this portafilter, solid, heavy, well made and aesthetically eye pleasing and a great addition to my De’longhi coffee machine, you can see the espresso going into your cup and will identify any channelling problems! Great advantage if you use larger longer IMS baskets because there is no bottom to stop it! I love it
