Care

Brush channels clear after use; once a week, remove and rinse the screen (and diffusion plate, 58mm set) to prevent buildup and keep flow uniform.

What is a high diffusion shower screen and why does it matter?

A high diffusion shower screen has a more open, precisely engineered hole pattern than the stock Breville screen. This distributes water more evenly across the coffee puck, reducing channelling and giving you a more consistent extraction on every shot.

Is this a direct replacement for the stock Breville shower screen?

Yes. It fits directly into the grouphead of Breville 54mm machines in place of the original screen — no modifications needed. Remove the centre bolt, swap the screen, refit the bolt.

Which Breville machines is this compatible with?

This fits Breville 54mm machines: Barista Express (BES870), Barista Pro (BES878), Barista Touch (BES880), and Barista Touch Impress (BES881). It is not compatible with Breville 58mm machines — if you have a Dual Boiler, Oracle, or Oracle Touch, you need the 58mm version.

How often should I replace my shower screen?

For home use, every 12–18 months is a good guideline — or sooner if you notice uneven extraction, slower flow, or visible scaling. Regular backflushing extends the life significantly. However the lifespan of these HD screens is much longer and should be fine for years.

Will this actually improve my espresso?

For most home setups, yes — especially if your machine is more than a year old and still running the original screen. More even water distribution means better saturation of the puck, which translates to a sweeter, more balanced shot with fewer bitter notes.
